Dear Piedmont Post,
Your article last week on “State backs away from moth spraying” did not make clear that Governor Schwarzenegger’s April 24 decision to temporarily postpone the spraying will only allow time to complete acute (short-term) toxicity tests. While the Governor’s decision is a step in the right direction, these tests do not constitute the full environmental impact report that the Piedmont City Council called for in its April 21 resolution opposing the spraying. Moreover, the April 24 Santa Cruz court ruling that the spraying must be halted until a full environmental review is completed does not apply to the Bay Area counties that are part of the spray plan. So this story is not over yet! Please keep up your coverage of this important issue.
