Undergrounding – Letter to the PNN
Posted by Len Gilbert on April 14, 2009
PNN received the letter below regarding City undergrounding expenditures from neighbor George Childs.
I would agree that the city should not contribute to the underground district costs at this time. There is limited infrastructure benefit, the primary focus is aesthetics.

PIEDMONT NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS:
RE: Proposed City expenditure for the “Piedmont Hills Underground Assessment District”
Concerned Citizens:
The Piedmont City Council is considering expending $142,551.50 of your tax money as the “City’s share” of the cost to convert electric and communications facilities to underground distribution adjacent to Hampton Field within the above assessment district. According to the draft agenda, they are expected to take up consideration of the City’s vote on this proposal at the April 20th, beginning at 7:30 pm, Council meeting in the Council Chambers at 120 Vista Ave., Piedmont.
ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT THIS UNNECESSARY EXPENDITURE OF YOUR TAX MONEY AT THIS TIME? IF SO, PLEASE COME TO THE COUNCIL MEETING ON THE 20TH TO EXPRSS YOUR VIEWS.

Dear Len,
I just checked on the City Council’s agenda for its meeting on Monday, April 20th. The item concerning the Piedmont Hills Underground Assessment District was missing. A call to the City Clerk’s office advised me that the matter has been put off until their May 4th meeting.
I would appreciate it if you could advise your readers.
Thank you,
George Childs
