Pursuant to Government Code Sec. 54954.1 this is the official notice of City of Piedmont meetings during the month of January, 2011.  All meetings are held at 120 Vista Avenue, Piedmont, unless otherwise noted.

Agendas for meetings will be posted in City Hall and the Piedmont Police Department at least 72 hours prior to each meeting.  Copies of all agendas may be requested from the office of the City Clerk, 120 Vista Avenue, Piedmont or by calling 510-420-3040.  Notice and agendas of special meetings will be provided at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.

Hearing: Safeway/Rockridge Center Proposal on December 8: Public Attendance Important

Wednesday, December 8, 5 p.m.;
Hearing Room 1, Oakland City Hall.

Design elements of Safeway’s proposed major reworking of the Rockridge Shopping Center on Pleasant Valley Road at Broadway will be considered at the Wednesday, December 8 meeting of the City’s Design Review Committee. This project will reconstruct and expand North Oakland’s most important shopping center.

Plan to attend this meeting and give your point of view about the proposed development’s current design elements.

RCPC is working with four other local community groups to present an alternative community proposal:
· In Rockridge; Friends and Neighbors of College Avenue (FANS)
· In Temescal; Standing Together for Accountable Neighborhood Development (STAND) and Urbanists for a Livable Temescal Rockridge Area (ULTRA), and
· In the Piedmont Avenue Area, the Piedmont Avenue Neighborhood Improvement League (PANIL).

The proposed project, as announced on the Committee’s on-line agenda:

Safeway Redevelopment Project (5050-5100 Broadway): Design Review discussion for the proposed redevelopment of an existing shopping center (anchored by Safeway and CVS) located at Broadway and Pleasant Valley Ave. The proposal includes the demolition of the existing shopping center and the construction of a new Safeway store, a new CVS store, and other commercial buildings for a total of approximately 296,000 square feet. Case file number CMD09-135.

The Design Review Committee is a committee of the Oakland Planning Department.
