Cal Baseball – Keep it alive in Berkeley

Save Cal Baseball

Hi Bay Area baseball families,

I am writing to you on behalf of the UC Berkeley baseball program — we need your help.  As many of you may have heard the University has decided to terminate the baseball program at the conclusion of this season. The program has been in existence since 1892 and we must keep the tradition alive. For the past several months a huge effort has been made to save the program, but it was not enough. In short, the Chancellor has informed us that we have until March 31, 2011 to raise close to $10 million in pledges to stabilize the program. Right now we are close to 6 million and growing! Please visit our fundraising website for more specific details.

This year’s team is ranked #14 in the country. The Bears will be playing in the Cal Baseball Classic at AT&T park this weekend (Mar 11-13).  This would be a great way to show your support for the program and watch some great baseball at a great stadium!  Cal will be playing on Friday at 7pm against Louisville – Lafayette, Saturday at 7pm against Rice, and Sunday at 4pm against Long Beach State. For more information about the Cal Baseball Classic go to:

Cal has produced many major league players, but more importantly offers a training field for the game of life.  If you feel strongly about keeping this opportunity in our backyard alive for future generations of baseball players, please fight for them by taking action.

Make a Pledge

You can make a pledge by going to www.savecalbaseball.com.   It is only collected if Cal reinstates baseball.  All donations are tax deductible.  Even a small pledge could go a long way; as it not only adds to the total pledged amount but also to the number of visible supporters.

Write a Letter

Write a letter to the Chancellor.

Go to the Games

Come show your support throughout this season.  No place in the Bay Area puts you closer to the action of College Baseball than Evans Diamond, located on the west side of the beautiful Berkeley campus, just a 5 minute walk from the downtown Berkeley BART Station.

Please help spread this message by forwarding to friends and teams or posting on league websites.  It would be great to get the message across that local baseball communities greatly value the opportunities that Cal baseball provides, and that cutting the baseball program would be a huge mistake.

Save Cal Baseball!!
