City Sets Public Meeting: Six Selected 4th Bore Projects, Revised Designs

March 26, 7-9 p.m.

The City of Oakland will hold a public meeting Monday evening, March 26, 7-9 p.m. at Kaiser Elementary School, 25 South Hill Court, Oakland (Hiller Highlands), to show and discuss the revised designs for the first six projects to be funded with the $8 million from Oakland’s Caldecott Tunnel Fourth Bore settlement agreement with Caltrans.

Participants will hear an overview of the process that led to the list of projects, with a focus on the proposed conceptual designs of the first six.

The goal of the meeting is for meeting participants to let the City know their thoughts on these designs, before the City moves forward to the final pre-construction stage.

These projects include:

  1. Tunnel Road/SR 13/Hiller Drive Intersection Improvements: $ 950,000
  2. Pedestrian Facilities on Caldecott Lane/Tunnel Road: $ 850,000
  3. Bicycle Facilities on Caldecott Lane/Tunnel Road: $ 290,000
  4. Caldecott Lane/Kay overcrossing Intersection Improvements: $ 100,000
  5. Bike facilities on Broadway from Brookside Avenue to Kay overcrossing: $ 410,000
  6. Jogging/walking path on Broadway from Golden Gate to Lake Temescal: $ 275,000

Oakland will give a brief overview of the whole $8 million list, but the focus of the meeting will be on the above projects. (NB: The drawing for Project #4 [Caldecott Lane/Kay Overcrossing] has been revised since originally posted last Monday. The project description for Project #5 [Bike Facilities on Broadway] also has changed, so please be sure to look at the new items.)

Spring Baseball Camp

Posted by Len Gilbert on March 22, 2012

This year PHS Baseball will be partnering with Future Star Baseball to put on a Spring Break Baseball Camp for baseball players ages 6-12. The camp, which runs Monday April 9 through Friday April 13, from 9am until 3:30pm, will be staffed by Piedmont High School players and coaches.

This is both an opportunity for the coaches and players to teach and work with the players of the future, but is also a fundraiser for the PHS baseball program.  Space is limited to 40 players and will be held at Witter Field. See the flyer for additional information or go to http://www.futurestarbaseball.com/springcamp.html

Upcoming Piedmont Connect Events

Posted by movenden on March 2, 2012

“John Muir” (Frank Helling) is coming to Piedmont Sunday evening!  Hope you can come hear him!  Kids will enjoy too (ages 10-12 and up … younger kids might be mystified by the Scottish accent).  Also, a reminder that on March 22 Stuart Moody will be presenting on “Rethinking Plastics.”

Two upcoming Piedmont Connect events:

1.An Evening with John Muir (co-sponsored by Piedmont Connect and Piedmont Community Church’s Forum Series)

Sunday March 4, 5-6:30 p.m.

Long-time National Park Ranger and retired middle school teacher Frank Helling will tell stories and share the spirit and philosophy of John Muir, bringing to life this environmental icon in an engaging presentation based on Muir’s own writings. Perhaps you know of John Muir as the founder of the National Parks and the Sierra Club, but come experience and understand the passions and interests that animated him. Children ages 10-12 and up will enjoy too!

Location: Chapel, Piedmont Community Church, 400 Highland Avenue (look for signs)

2.Rethinking Plastics (co-sponsored by Piedmont Connect and Piedmont League of Women Voters)

Thursday March 22, 7 p.m.

Join Stuart Moody for a thought-provoking presentation on the role and perils of plastics in our everyday lives. Stuart initiated the Rethinking Plastics Campaign in Marin County, which has been a major force in raising civic awareness of the plague of plastic pollution. If you missed his presentation to Piedmont Connect last Fall, this is a chance to see it! He will also show a short slide presentation titled “Bring Your Own Bag.” Members of  Connect’s Waste Reduction Group will be on hand to share their experiences too.

Location: 3 Richardson Way, Piedmont. Please RSVP at www.piedmontconnect.org. Space is very limited.
