Hello Friends of Piedmont Center for the Arts-

Happy New Year!  A great line up of fun upcoming events are planned at the Center. Starting January 18 is the watercolor art show of Julie Cohn.  Enjoy a special cello and piano recital on Saturday evening January 26 by Ting Chin and Lori Lack.  Then on Sunday afternoon January 27 the Community Women’s Orchestra will hold a Chamber Concert Soiree.   On February 1-24, the Modern Stitch Guild returns with more than 20 quilt artists showing their creations.  The evening of February 1 is the madcap sounds of the BiRdS oF PlaY. The sounds of harpsichord music will be heard on February 9 with the international artist Alexander Sung playing a program of Mozart.  The unique sounds of Voci Women’s Vocal Ensemble will enchant us on February 10.  If you ever wanted to try your hand at acting, thePiedmont Repertory Theater Group will be holding a casting call for two Thornton Wilder Plays the evening of Thursday, February 14.

January 18-29, Julie Cohn Watercolor Painting Art Exhibit.  The watercolor painting show of Julie Cohn entitled Contemplation/C e l e b r a t i o n will be on view January 18-27.  Friday 1/18, Saturday 1/19, Sunday 1/20, Friday 1/25, Saturday, 1/26 and Sunday, 1/27.  Gallery Hours are 12 noon – 3:00 pm.

Saturday, January 26, 8:00,  Ting Chin, Lori Lack Cello/Piano Recital
Cellist Ting Chin and pianist Lori Lack to performs works of Vivaldi, Schumann and Beethoven. Admission free. Dessert reception to follow.

Sunday, January 27, 4 p.m., Community Women’s Orchestra 

Chamber Concert Soiree, 4:00-8:00 p.m. Chamber music. Fine wines and hors d’oeuvres. Silent & live auction. Tickets $25 before Jan. 27;  $30 at the door. Children under 12 no admission. Tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com, call 800-838-3006, or at the door.

Friday, February 1-24, Modern Stitch Quilt Show  

An exhibit of works by more than 20 quilt artists. Saturday, February 2, 6:00-8:00 –  Opening reception.

Friday, February 1, 7:30 p.m., Birdz of Play

BiRdZ oF PlaY quartet is a madcap group of veteran rockers and pickers with deep roots in the Bay Area, including singer/songwriter Donnalou Stevens, percussionist Susan Jette,  singer/guitarist Woody Trevorrow and guitarist Barry Silverblatt.  Plenty of refreshments and a unique blend of folk, country and rock!  Tickets $15 at the door.

Saturday, February 9, 4 p.m., Alexander Sung, A Celebration of Keyboard Music:  A Harpsichord Recital

International harpsichord competition award winner Alexander Sung plays a program of Mozart.  Tickets $20 General, $15 Seniors and students. Call 415-392-4400 or visit www.cityboxoffice.com.

Sunday, February 10, 4 p.m. , Voci Women’s Vocal Ensemble-The Song is You, A Musical Valentine Treat. An intimate afternoon of  amorous vocal music – a fundraiser for Voci Women’s Vocal Ensemble. Wine and light appetizers served. $45 donation. Advance purchase advised. Tickets available online at http://www.vocisings.com or at the door.

Thursday, February 14, 12-4 p.m., Casting Call for two Thornton Wilder 1-act plays produced by Piedmont Repertory Company, directed by Michael French. Auditions for both “Christmas Dinner” and “Queens of France” will be held Thursday, February 14th, 7 – 8:30pm. To book an audition slot and to receive an audition scene please contact Michael French at french4beginners@yahoo.com.
