Summer Solstice with the California Revels

Posted by Len Gilbert on June 20, 2013

The Revels family is having a fun and informal salute to the longest day of the year this Friday from 6pm to sundown at Oakland’s beautiful Lake Merritt.

Where & When

Lake Merritt Pergola
Grand Avenue and El Embarcadero Oakland, CA
Fri., June 21, 2013 6:00pm – Sundown

This is a free event for Revelers young and old.  We meet at the Lake Merritt Pergola on Grand Avenue and El Embarcadero near the Grand Lake Theater.  Bring the kids and a picnic if you are so inclined or choose one of the many area restaurants for a later supper.

Come help us to welcome Summer!

  • Macedonian Spiral Dance!
  • Sing along with the Revels Ensemble!
  • Juggling!
An unbroken tradition for almost 10 years, we will mark the Solstice by dancing as the Sun tips over the Western horizon.

We’re joined by joyous Balkan and Eastern European Singing Ensemble Mozaik, even more musicians, and what Solstice event could possibly be complete without telescopic astronomical observation?  We’ll have that and more.

Bring a blanket and a picnic if you wish. This is a relaxed and casual celebration where we come together to pay homage to the longest day of the year.
