You’re Invited!

Winter Wonderland Fundraiser Party

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be holding our first annual Winter Wonderland Fundraiser at the New Parish on Dec. 4 from 6:00-9:30. This is a great opportunity to support our work, as well as network with other bikers and walkers in Oakland. WOBO is the voice for ensuring quality bikeways, public open spaces, and pedestrian infrastructure in Oakland.

But we can’t do it alone! Help us improve livability in our city and join us for a night of food, drinks, music, and fun! We’ll also be holding a live auction and raffle, offering prizes from local businesses such as Public Bikes, Oaktown Spice Shop, Grand Lake Kitchen, and more.

Ticketing information can be found here as well as on our Facebook event. Be sure to RSVP and invite your friends. We’ll also looking for some dedicated volunteers to help us make this event happen.

All volunteers who work for a shift will receive a free ticket. Sign up form here.

Looking forward to celebrating with all of you!

The PHS Advanced Acting Class presents Harper Lee’s American classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Stephen Adly Guirgis’ contemporary dark comedy, Den of Thieves November 14th through the 17th at the Alan Harvey Theater.

To Kill a Mockingbird

Set in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930’s, To Kill a Mockingbird tells the story of Scout and Jem Finch, children who learn about justice and equality when their father, lawyer Atticus Finch, defends an African-American man in their small Southern town.

To Kill a Mockingbird will be presented Thursday, November 14 and Saturday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. each night.

NOTE: To Kill a Mockingbird is rated PG, recommended for ages 10 and older due to adult subject matter.

Den of Thieves

This contemporary dark comedy set in modern day New York City introduces us Paul and Maggie, two members of a self-help program who are trying to change their lives. The duo’s plans of reform are interrupted however, when Maggie’s ex-boyfriend, Flaco, gets them in on “the steal of a lifetime.”  Chaos, danger, romance, donuts and hilarity ensues as the group fights for their lives.

NOTE: Den of Thieves is rated PG-13, recommended for audiences of 13 and older due to adult subject matter and language.

Roll-n-Shoot Basketball Tournament

Posted by Len Gilbert on November 4, 2013

On November 9th the Piedmont High Men’s Basketball Program and Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP), a local nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for kids with physical disabilities to play organized, wheelchair basketball and other sports, is co-sponsoring a 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball tournament fundraiser that will benefit the basketball programs at PHS and BORP.

borp

The fund raising event is called “Roll ‘N Shoot” and will be made up of teams of Piedmont High basketball players and other PHS students who will play wheelchair basketball against each other and be coached by BORP players.  The Roll ‘N Shoot is a fun way to raise awareness about young athletes with disabilities and a great way to raise money for the basketball programs at PHS and BORP.

The money raised from the fundraising effort will enable the Highlanders to purchase new uniforms, new basketballs, and other equipment. For BORP, funds will be used to enable players to travel to wheelchair basketball tournaments to experience competitive play.

Donations can be made through Piggybackr, a fundraising platform designed for students, and will then be distributed to BORP and the Piedmont High Men’s Basketball Program.  All donations are 100% tax-deductible.  The goal for each team is to raise $500.

Eight Piedmont Players have already signed up to Captain a team.  The tournament is open to the community.  If Dads, Moms or other community groups would like to form teams, we welcome all.  The Piedmont Coaches are one of the teams and have raised $600 already.  Let’s go Piedmont!

For the Team Captains, the link below has instructions to recruit your team and a sample fundraising email to start your fundraising.

If you have any questions regarding the website, please email Josh from BORP,josh@borp.org  Debbie djp815@yahoo.com.
